    This method is usually called by the build tool when it knows that the IRs will not be useful anymore (for example, because a compilation run for a subset of the build is finished), or when there has been an error.

    The method is not added to the interface of CompilerInterface because we still support JDK 6 (Scala 2.10 support) and there's no way we can add a new method to the interface in a non binary breaking way.
