Do not need to flip before call serialize(String, ByteBuffer). For example:

 ByteBufferSerializer serializer = ...; // Create Serializer
 ByteBuffer buffer = ...;               // Allocate ByteBuffer
 buffer.put(data);                      // Put data into buffer, do not need to flip
 serializer.serialize(topic, buffer);   // Serialize buffer
